The Voice That Follows God’s Voice

Written by:

“The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field,
but while his men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat and went away.”
— Matthew 13:24–25 (ESV)

Usually, the Word of God Comes First — Then the Devil Speaks

There is a pattern that repeats itself throughout Scripture and in our everyday lives—one that, once you recognize it, will completely change how you discern truth, temptation, and direction.

It is this:

God speaks first. Then the devil responds.

This is not random. This is spiritual order.

🌿 God Initiates — The Enemy Reacts

From the very beginning, we see that God is always the initiator.

In the Garden of Eden, God had already spoken clearly:

“You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat…” — Genesis 2:16–17 (ESV)

The command was established. Truth was already set in place.

Then came the serpent.

“Did God actually say…?” — Genesis 3:1

Notice the strategy:

The devil does not create truth—he questions, distorts, and reacts to what God has already spoken.

God speaks first.

The enemy comes second.

⚔️ The Enemy Echoes — But Twists

The devil’s power is not in creation—it is in perversion.

He takes what God said and subtly bends it:

God gives clarity → the devil introduces confusion God gives direction → the devil introduces doubt God gives life → the devil suggests death disguised as freedom

This is why the voice of the enemy often sounds familiar.

It echoes truth—but with a twist.

🔥 Even Jesus Faced This Pattern

Look at Jesus Christ in the wilderness.

First, God speaks:

“This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” — Matthew 3:17

Identity is established. Truth is declared.

Then immediately—temptation.

“If you are the Son of God…” — Matthew 4:3

Do you see it?

God says who you are.

The devil comes to make you question it.

This is the pattern:

God speaks truth over you The enemy tries to get you to doubt it

🧠 Why This Matters in Your Life

Many people get confused because they hear two voices:

One that brings peace, conviction, and direction Another that brings fear, confusion, and compromise

But here’s the key:

👉 The first voice aligned with truth is often God.

👉 The second voice that questions it is often the enemy.

For example:

You feel led to do something righteous → then doubt floods in You sense God calling you higher → then fear speaks louder You receive clarity → then confusion follows

That is not coincidence. That is spiritual warfare.

🐑 The Sheep Know the Shepherd

Jesus Christ said:

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” — John 10:27

The sheep don’t follow the loudest voice.

They follow the familiar voice.

This means your job is not to entertain every thought—

your job is to recognize the Shepherd.

🛑 Stop Entertaining the Second Voice

One of the biggest mistakes people make is this:

They give equal weight to both voices.

They treat:

God’s truth and the enemy’s suggestion

…as if they are both worthy of consideration.

They are not.

When God has already spoken, the conversation is over.

🕊️ How to Respond Correctly

When you recognize this pattern, your response should change.

Instead of:

analyzing the doubt wrestling with the lie entertaining the confusion

You do what Jesus did:

“It is written…”

You return to what God already said.

💡 Final Word: Stay Anchored in the First Voice

Here is the wisdom:

God’s voice brings light The enemy follows with shadow God speaks with authority The enemy speaks with questions God establishes The enemy destabilizes

So when you hear something from God—

hold onto it tightly.

Because the next voice you hear may not be there to guide you…

…but to pull you away.

✨ Closing Exhortation

Do not wrestle with every thought.

Do not negotiate with doubt.

Do not give the enemy a seat at the table God has already spoken over.

Stand firm.

Because when God has spoken first, nothing that comes after has authority over it.
